"There is general agreement that the Abdank, Habdank or Awdaniec crest evolved from a property seal used by Pakoslaw, the voivod of Sandomierz in 1228. But controversy exists as to the origin of its main heraldic motif which looks like an 'M' or 'W'. Some say the 'M' stood for Michal, one of the clan's founders. Others perceive the crest as portraying twin gables. Whatever the case, the magazine lists more than 240 families that used the Abdank coat-of-arms." Robert Strybel
